The Silenced Guardians

This project uses Generative AI to address the climate crisis through the lens of a sad irony where those individuals who contribute least to the intensifying crisis are the ones most affected by it.

Narrative

Nature gives us life, yet we’ve taken so much that the Earth is left broken. Now, it’s the Indigenous communities — those who’ve cared for the land the most — who are forced to sacrifice the most. They give back to the Earth, not because they caused the harm, but because they have no choice. Their loss is a reminder of all we’ve taken and the price they’re paying for it. These individuals are the ones most vulnerable to a crisis that was not created by them.

In this grotesque irony, Indigenous peoples are like human scarecrows — standing vigilant over the land they protect yet denied the harvest they guard. This visual series showcases five different Indigenous peoples: Native Americans, Indigenous Andean Peoples, Maasai People, Sámi People, and Aboriginal Peoples through their distinct landscapes, portraying the varied environments that shape their cultures and traditions. While these communities are highlighted, they represent only a fraction of the diverse Indigenous peoples worldwide who are trapped in this same irony.
